Hi all,
Here's another question. I'm looking for a captcha solver to put on my laptop. I don't want to use Webvisum because I don't want to get Firefox. I tried to find Salona, but the address I have (www.salona.net) is up for sale and I can't find it anywhere else. Is Salona still around?
Thanks,
Becky
Solona seems to have been gone for a long time, but don't ask me what happened to it. I don't think it's around anymore though.
Other than Webvisum, I'm not aware of any captcha solving solutions. Maybe someone here is aware of something I'm not? I know the latest version of JAWS has an OCR engine, but not sure how well it does with captchas. I just got it myself, so haven't used that feature yet.
i didon't know salonna was gone.
but i'm personally glad.
i didon't like the way it was run, and i didon't like how the staff treated me their.
at least with web vism you don't rely on real people
I never had a problem with Solona. I found it the easiest captcha solver out there, and miss it. I especially liked when Qwitter came out with a way to solve captchas using Solona from within the Qwitter program. I never had occasion to interact with any of the staff, so I can't speak to that. But in my opinion, it was a good service, and sucks that it's no longer available.
I'm gonna have to get bloody Firefox, aren't I? lol. Ah well, I really do want a captcha solver. Thanks for the info!
Becky
The OCR with jaws13 is not working with captchas as far as I've noticed. So I don't think it's a good improvement as long as it's not catching up the problematic captchas.
Dinesh aka Raaj.
keep in mind, those images are designed to fool OCR engines. if they were able to be decoded that way they'd be worthless as a security measure.
If you don't want to use Firefox as your main browser, just install it for the sake of using webvism, and make sure it isn't set to be your default browser.
Yep, that's what I do. Firefox does work a lot better under Windows 7. It doesn't crash as much, and to make sure you really can get the most out of it, disable all your flash plugins, like Shockwave and Quick Time. Firefox and flash really do not get along. The day they do, I'll start using it as my primary browser. And the day Firefox and pages with frames get along, I'll use it too. For example, on Kingdom of Loathing, there are 4 different frames on the page that display different places you can go, your stats, the chat, and whatever you happen to be doing at the time in the game. But in Firefox, all that's displayed is the frame where it shows the battle you're in or whatever you're doing. And forget trying to use the chat, which is kind of essential for commands and stuff if not for chatting. So you can't really play. Ok, rant over, lol. I probably should have created a separate topic for that. But my point being that Firefox really isn't the best browser. IE has its definite problems, especially if you're using version 9 *cringe*, but if you need flash content or frames, it's still the way to go. That's why Firefox can never be a complete replacement in my opinion.
Yep I wondered where salona had gone; I also miss it and found it very useful. I've avoided getting firefox just for the sake of captures but maybe I'll have to give in.
Webvisum is awesome!
As far as firefox and flash, I feel like it's improoved alot, especially with thelatest version, which i think is firefox 11.
Having tried webvisum recently, I can not share your enthusiasm. I tried to have it solve the captcha for jabber.org, and gave up after 15 failed attempts. Or, is recaptcha just *that* good. LOL.
Mozilla browser 12;
Trisquel 5.5;
other browser extensions: addblock plus;
Flash Video Replacer.
I loved webvism when I was using my pc, and am now looking for something similar for my mac. I hear firefox isn't that voiceover-friendly and haven't tried it either, sense I really don't want a bunch of 3rd party programs on my computer, so have been trying to find another one.
Does anyone have any clues? I like solon for a while too, but had the same trouble one of the previous posters did on a couple of occasions with the operators demanding that I not post this immmage again, like I was supposed to know it was the same one, after I was under the impression I'd gotten a new one.
